The Welcome Centre
EuNC's Welcome Centre was dedicated on May 22, 2004. The building was originally constructed in 1580 and was known as the "Türmlihüsli" (Swiss-German for "Little Tower House"). More recently it was known as the Altenburgerhaus after the Altenburger family who were long-time owners. Today it is the campus' Welcome Centre and houses the offices of the Rector and Administrative Manager among others.
EuNC is indebted to the seven Work and Witness Teams from various parts of the United States who gave of their time and money to renovate the building.
It required that the building be gutted and rebuilt from the inside. The roof was removed and then
replaced so skylights could be installed. The ground floor had to be lowered to increase
the head room on the main level. An addition was put onto the back which houses rest-
rooms and a kitchen so the back wall had to be removed while a new foundation and
walls were built at the back.
We have a slide show available that gives a visual history of the
building between 1926 and 2004 and includes all of the various
steps that were taken during the renovationand re-construction
of the house.
