Student Profile - Sara Schmid

Welcome to the life of an EuNC student! Today, let’s meet Sara Schmid from Italy.

Sara Schmid is a 21 year old student from Florence Italy. Before coming to the Büsingen campus, Sara studied at the Italy Learning Centre for two years.

Ever since she was a child, Sara always said she would study theology. She anticipated that such study would help her grow in her spiritual interests and in her personal life, and she saw that with such a study she could be more prepared to help in the Church in various ways.

Sara heard about the Learning Centre from the coordinator, and the coordinator as well as her pastor encouraged her to attend courses.  Once she began studying she saw that she would want to finish the course of study and realized that to do so at the Learning Centre would take six years – a time that she could not afford to invest.  However, Sara never even considered the Büsingen campus as an option until she was offered a scholarship to come study here.  Even with the scholarship, it was a hard decision for Sara to make whether she would accept the offer.  She spent three months trying to decide whether it was worth it to be away from her family, her loved ones, her Church, and her job.  However, in the end, even though it was hard to leave everything, she felt sure that God was asking her to make the move and finish her studies.  Sara describes it as though God is the one who opens all the doors in life, and it was clear to her that he was opening all the doors for her to be able to come here, so she decided to step through them.

Although Sara misses her family a lot, she is trying to enjoy her time here with the variety of people and cultures, and she is trying to learn as much as possible in and out of class.  She’s enjoying her part in the community as she and others learn from one another and get to know one another.

While she’s studying at Büsingen, Sara will most likely work toward being ordained.  Yet beyond that, she really isn’t sure what lies ahead of her after her studies are finished.  She would like to go back to Florence and be involved in the Church probably leading bible studies, and possibly youth group. She’s also interested in the potential of doing counseling, but she’s not sure if that’s a reality.  Ultimately, Sara will continue to follow through the doors God opens from here on out.
